Dr. Kay Waud Featured on The Birth Experience with Labor Nurse Mama Podcast Regarding PCOS
Dr. Kay Waud, a double-board certified OB-GYN specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at our HRC San Francisco location, was recently interviewed by Trish Ware, RN on her podcast The Birth Experience with Labor Nurse Mama on the topic of PCOS in honor of September’s designation as PCOS Awareness Month. The podcast is available for listening on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or PCOS, is one of the most common causes of female infertility and affects approximately 6%-13% of females of reproductive age worldwide. Dr. Kay explains the criteria necessary for diagnosis, as well as common symptoms and how to alleviate these. She also highlights the key association between PCOS and insulin resistance and the importance of understanding this relationship.
Despite its negative connotation and common misconceptions, Dr. Kay emphasizes that PCOS is an extremely treatable and easily remedied condition, with lifestyle habits being integral for women with PCOS. She states, “We know how to get them pregnant. We know how to keep them healthy. Yes, those are big promises. But again, that’s why it’s very hopeful.”
