Dr. Katherine McDaniel discusses if Ozempic can help patients with endometriosis.

Dr. Katherine McDaniel was recently featured in SingleCare in an article written by Lacey Muinos titled “Could Ozempic help endometriosis?”

According to the article, endometriosis is a women’s health condition where endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus. It is a common condition that affects more than 11% of reproductive-age women and girls in the United States. Having endometriosis can greatly impact an individual’s quality of life as some of the symptoms of endometriosis can include painful periods, pelvic pain, and infertility.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for endometriosis, but there are several treatment options including hormonal treatments, medications, and surgical procedures. The article explores whether there could be a link between Ozempic and improved endometriosis symptoms. However, the connection between Ozempic and endometriosis is purely hypothetical and anecdotal at this point in time.

Dr. Katherine McDaniel, MD, FACOG, a reproductive endocrinologist and board-certified gynecologist in Pasadena, CA states “some of our endometriosis patients are now turning to Ozempic and other GLP-1 receptor agonists because they have found limited symptomatic relief with the traditional treatments. There is a strong hope that this off-label use will lead to an improved quality of life for this important, and oftentimes underserved, group of women.”
