Dr. Sharrón Manuel and Dr. Mabel Lee Featured in a Bored Panda Article Discussing Ovarian Cancer

Dr. Sharrón Manuel and Dr. Mabel Lee of HRC Fertility Pasadena were recently featured in an article titled “Woman Reveals 2 Major Symptoms Her Doctor Misunderstood Before Shocking Cancer Diagnosis.”

In fall of 2022, Carla Peoples started experiencing symptoms that she couldn’t explain. Her stomach began growing larger, yet she was losing weight at the same time. Her doctors initially misdiagnosed her with a prolapsed bladder before an emergency scan showed tumors. Her everyday symptoms turned out to be signs of late-stage ovarian cancer, and now she shares with Bored Panda her message on what other women can learn from her experience.

Dr. Manuel states, “symptoms of ovarian cancer are non-specific and can mimic a variety of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, benign ovarian cysts, or even hormonal changes of menopause.” Dr. Lee goes on to say, “Many patients believe these issues are menstrual cycle-related or gastrointestinal problems rather than something more serious.”
