What is the success rate of PGD for patients with robertsonian translocation? For oversea clients, how much time do we need to finish one cycle? Are there any ways to reduce the total cost? Thank you very much.

Typically if we are transferring a euploid embryo (one with a normal number of chromosomes) the pregancy rates per embryo transfer are much improved in the ranges of 70 to 75%, possibly slightly higher. However, being that you are a carrier of a balanced Robertsonian translocation, the number of euploid embryos will be less than a person without. Performing an embryo collection cycle may be appropriate in order to increase the likelihood of having a 'good' embryo to transfer. In addition, prior to any treatment, a quick consultation with a genetic counsellor and also our reproductive genetics labortory would be essential.

In terms of an over-seas patient, typically it is important to be present for at least 10 to 16 or 17 days depending upon the female's response to stimulation medications. Often-times a baseline ultrasound may be performed in your home country, with the subsequent monitoring visits being performed at one of our offices in the U.S.. However, each case is unique and some timing differences may ensue. It also will depend if a fresh or frozen embryo transfer cycle is being planned. Best of luck and I look forward to working with you.
