Hello, my wife has a phobia to needles, where she actually tears up thinking about it. There is no chance she can give herself a shot and she travels a good amount for work. She has ruled out even having someone else give her the shots as it is a real issue for her.

Are there any new ways of administering the hormones without needles? I am reading about many new ways of administering immunizations with needle free options like Jet Injectors, Microneedles, Oral or inhalation. Do you know of options like this are out now or are in the pipeline?

Also, would she need to take the shots if we used an egg donor and my wife carried the eggs after IVF?

On that note, are there any options at all where she can carry the baby, but not have to take needle shots.

Thanks!

Dear Afraid of needles:
There are many alternatives to intramuscular injections - most centers are becoming more user friendly with sub cuticular and suppositories. At your initial consultation, let me know about your wife's fear of needles, and I will walk her through the alternatives so she feels more comfortable. I hope this helps you move forward.
Warmly,
Dr Jane Frederick
