Hi there,

I"m getting ready to do an IVF cycle to have a second child. I'm in the process of weaning my 18 month old daughter and I'm down to an average of once a day...mostly the morning time.

Will this amount of breastfeeding affect my IVF cycle? I"m really trying to fully wean her before I start the fertility meds which will be in a couple weeks as I've started the birth control pills.

Tonight my husband and I were having a discussion and started wondering if we should wait to do this IVF cycle until I've fully weaned her for a longer period...like at least 3-6 months? (BTW I'm 40 now and I don't think I have a lot of time to wait)

Any advice you can give would be great! Thanks in advance!

Hello - We generally ask you to fully weane before starting treatment as the hormone that is responsible for lactating (prolactin) may have an adverse effect on stimulation or implantation. Once you have weaned, you should be ready to go. If there is any question, then one can always measure the level in your blood.
Hope this helps.
