Hi,

On Monday, November 22, I found out that I had a successful IVF cycle and became pregnant. My blood was tested again two days later on Wednesday, November 24th and they found that my HCG levels had doubled but that my estrogen and progesterone levels were a "little low". The next day (Thursday) I began to bleed a little. The color ranges from pink to a dark burgandy and it seems much lighter than my normal cycle, but its hard to tell because the blood seems to be mixing with the suppositories that I am taking. I was also experiencing minor cramping - nothing worse than the cramping I feel during a typical menstral cycle. The most interesting thing is that the bleeding is not consistent. I seem to only be bleeding from about 12:00 noon until around 10:00 pm. I had bleeding for the last three days (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). Today is Sunday and I am waiting to see if it has stopped or if I am going to start again around 12:00 noon today.

Is this any cause for concern? I know that bleeding in the first trimester of pregnancy can be normal.

Thank you!

You are describing symptoms consistent with implantation bleeding. If your hormone levels were low, we would suggest adding more estrogen and progesterone replacement. If you are taking aspirin, you should ask your doctor if you should discontinue the aspirin since it can contribute to additional bleeding. Often we suggest decreasing your activity level while you have bleeding and you should have your hcg levels monitored closely for any evidence the pregnancy has been disrupted. Most patients with implantation bleeding will do well and continue their pregnancy.

Good luck. Dr. Wilcox

Did your bleeding stop? In my case(2 years ago, it didn't stop until I got an infection at 15 week and lost the twin pregnancy(very rare). Although, I currently found out that I'm positive for MTHFR which makes me more prone to blood clots. I'm hoping next ivf will work since my first ivf at 24 yrs old worked.

Please let me know!
