Hi, I am a 37 year old women with a daughter who is 18 months old. Because of a health problem, my daughter did a Microarray that indicated a microduplication that is highly unlike to be significant. Still,l it generated lots of anxiety in our family. Is it possible to test for this specific microduplication before the IVF (microarray)?
How much it would approximately cost?
Thank you!

Hello. Your question is a good one and the answer is a bit complicated so it may be worth an actual in person consultation but I will try to address your question as best I can in this forum. Miroarrays that detect microduplications are really only done accurately in people (not on embryos or on fetuses). However, if this is a specific inherited microduplication that you and/or your husband carries then it can be assessed and may be able to be detected in an embryo via PGD prior to being implanted into your uterus. PGS however is used to assess whole chromosome abnormalities rather than microarrays in general. Microarrays can also be done on a fetus via CVS or amniocentesis but when looking for a small specific microduplication via microarray that is most accurately done when performed on a person (not a fetus or embryo). I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out to us directly here in the office if you'd like to speak further about this: 310-481-0881. Thanks, Dr. Chavkin
