I am a 49 year old nulliparous woman who was diagnosed with stage 1 endometrial cancer just as I was about to attempt IVF. Conservative treatment with Provera and Mirena showed no change in the histology and, in view of that, I underwent a recent hysterectomy with preservation of my ovaries.
I wish to attempt IVF with donor sperm and surrogacy and was hoping that you would consider me. My antimullerian factor is 1.2. Would you consider me for IVF? What is the cost? I am willing to travel from Australia if you will consider me. What time should I schedule off?
Thank you for your help.

We do not accept or reject patients at HRC. We give good advice, and also desire to keep patients from wasting money. If you would still like to travel to the U.S. and create embryos before doing egg donation, I am happy to discuss the process with a Skype consult.

Please contact my office directly at 818.788.7288.

Kind regards,
Dr. Feinman

I am happy to hear that you are cured from your cancer.

Unfortunately, at your age, virtually all of the eggs you produce will have chromosomal abnormalities. Regardless of AMH levels, most women over 45 do not respond well to ovarian stimulation, thus making it even harder to find a viable egg. As much as I would like to help you have a child, I am afraid of the high cost of finding a surrogate will not pay off for you. In addition, the surrogate mothers are very success-oriented and, in my experience, it will be almost impossible to find you a suitable match for the reasons I mentioned. Your only realistic hope of having a child is through egg donation.

If you would like to discuss this option further, although it is not your primary desire, please schedule a phone or Skype consult with me at 818-788-7288.

Yours truly,
Michael Feinman, MD

Dear Dr Feinman,

Thank you for your reply. I am aware that the odds are against me because of my age.

I would still like to attempt IVF with my own eggs before going onto donor egg as I never had the opportunity to do so before undergoing the hysterectomy for endometrial cancer.

Would it be possible to have preimplantation genetic screening of the embryo? How much of the abnormalities does it detect?

Again I am prepared to travel from Australia if you would consider me for IVF.

Thank you for your help.
