We chose HRC & Dr. Nelson for our fertility treatments this past spring. We went through 2 IUI cycles & 1 IVF. The IVF was successful and we are now 25 weeks pregnant. Everything is going great and by all accounts the baby is looking very healthy! Dr. Nelson, Germaine, & Addiline were so accommodating and supportive; their responsiveness and patience made us feel comfortable with the decisions about treatments and course of action we took.  Germaine, Addiline, and the nursing staff at HRC were, without exception, knowledgeable and extremely clear in their instruction and responses to questions. Kimberly, in the billing office, worked diligently to coordinate benefits with our insurance, explained out-of-pocket expenses, and found efficiencies and opportunities for us financially. We thoroughly appreciated the expertise, professionalism, and bedside manner of Dr. Nelson.  In all interactions, Dr. Nelson was friendly and supportive, and this did not detract from the fact that he took his job very seriously. It is his equal parts warmth and commitment to excellence that sets Dr. Nelson apart from many other health care professionals. We were always confident he was advising us to the most appropriate types of treatments and we trusted his opinions. Ultimately it was Dr. Nelson’s combination of science and artistry that resulted in our little miracle due in April!

Dr. Nelson gave me a miracle.

I'll never forget the day I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I was 28 and I was trying to conceive my second child. I was told that both ovaries needed to be removed and I was devastated. I was told by a dear friend that she had someone who could help me and had him call me. Dr. Nelson called me and let me know that even though I was losing my ovaries i had options and that he wouldn't let me give up hope of giving my daughter a sibling. He was an amazing support after my surgery and when I was fully healed and cancer free for a year, he and I came up with a plan. I've never met such a kind and understanding doctor. He genuinely cared about my partner and I and was so hopeful and encouraging. After one donor egg cycle I miscarried all 3 of my babies and I was devastated. Again, Dr. Nelson gave me incredible support. For my 2nd donor egg IVF he changed my protocol, gave me tons of encouragement and promised me it was going to work. And it did. When I got my diagnosis I never in a million years thought I would get to be pregnant again and have a baby. Dr. Nelson and his staff (Germaine was AMAZING) gave me the most precious gift of my life. My little Kai was the light at the end of a very long tunnel. Fittingly enough, he was born under the sign of "Cancer." Because of Dr. Nelson and his staff, cancer didn't take anything from me. It gave me the greatest gift of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.Raechelle

HRC Gave Us Our Dream

Our journey began in 2005 with Dr. Wilcox in Pasadena. I have PCOS, so IVF was the way to go.  In Nov. we did our first round.  No success. We waited close to a year to try again. No success. March 2007, Round 3.  No success.  Dr. Wilcox realized I was a difficult case.  There had to be more to my case than just PCOS and low sperm count for my husband.  We were told about the success in cases like mine, and felt that we had a chance.

After a very emotional and difficult decision, we decided to try again. We were on the most emotional rollercoaster ride of our lives.  My desire for a child was the most intense feeling I had ever felt.  We had spent ten years trying to have a baby, to no avail.  Before he would begin my fourth round of treatment, Dr. Wilcox ordered a clotting panel done on me to see if there was any reason I could not carry a pregnancy.  He notified me that I had a clotting issue.  He diagnosed me with MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) Homozygous.  He put me on a daily regimine of Folgard, which I am on for life.

For seven moths, I took my little tiny folate pill.  October of 2007, we did our Fourth round of IVF.  We used fresh specimines from my husband, and had my fourth egg retrieval.  The transfer went well, but my uterus spasmed a little during.  That night, I began bleeding heavy.  I just knew, it was over.  My heart broke.  I called Dr. Wilcox's staff and waited a week just to be sure.  My blood test came out negative. It was that night that I wanted to give up.  My husband wasn't so sure.  I had to convince him two cycles before, and now it was his turn to convince me.  Something told us we had to give it one more try.  I know it was God talking to us.

So, crazy as it sounds, we went for round 5 in January of 2008.  This time I went through an ovulation cycle of huge proportions.  I had 23 eggs.  Once again everything was fresh, not frozen, and we got 11 fertilized eggs.  The day of transfer Dr. Wilcox chose the three most beautiful embryos to transfer.  Because of my age (36) we didn't want to push it. Three days after transfer, it happened again.  I began bleeding heavy.  Heavier than before. I didn't wait to call the doctor's on call, and I was told that maybe I was miscarrying one of the embryos.

Two days later, I went in for an early pregnancy test.  The longest day of my life.  The phone rang, and Kim on the other end of the phone told me the most incredible news I have ever heard..."Christine, you are pregnant.  Really, REALLY, pregnant.  Your numbers are incredible."  Every week, my numbers just kept getting bigger.

The day of our first internal ultrasound, we saw two embryos. One was small and not developing, but the other one was viable and developing as perfectly as it could be. I was put on Lovenox and aspirin. It was a high risk pregnancy, and in September of 2008, our daughter was born. She came early, but fought through, and now she is the most vibrant and amazing 3 1/2 year old.  Thank you Dr. Wilcox and your team for guiding us through our baby adventure.

Phenomenal Office

I was under the care of Dr. Jeffery Nelson in the Pasadena office, for IVF.  I am 41 years old and my husband is 46.  We cannot express how deeply grateful we are to him and his entire staff. Following embryo transfer, one healthy embryo implanted using our own egg and sperm.  We would wholeheartedly recommend this office to anyone wishing for a baby.  This is the best office for a comprehensive, cutting edge and low-stressed experience.
