Dr. Nelson gave me a miracle.

I'll never forget the day I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I was 28 and I was trying to conceive my second child. I was told that both ovaries needed to be removed and I was devastated. I was told by a dear friend that she had someone who could help me and had him call me. Dr. Nelson called me and let me know that even though I was losing my ovaries i had options and that he wouldn't let me give up hope of giving my daughter a sibling. He was an amazing support after my surgery and when I was fully healed and cancer free for a year, he and I came up with a plan. I've never met such a kind and understanding doctor. He genuinely cared about my partner and I and was so hopeful and encouraging. After one donor egg cycle I miscarried all 3 of my babies and I was devastated. Again, Dr. Nelson gave me incredible support. For my 2nd donor egg IVF he changed my protocol, gave me tons of encouragement and promised me it was going to work. And it did. When I got my diagnosis I never in a million years thought I would get to be pregnant again and have a baby. Dr. Nelson and his staff (Germaine was AMAZING) gave me the most precious gift of my life. My little Kai was the light at the end of a very long tunnel. Fittingly enough, he was born under the sign of "Cancer." Because of Dr. Nelson and his staff, cancer didn't take anything from me. It gave me the greatest gift of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.Raechelle

Looking Forward to a New Life, A New Future and A New Family

I was referred to Dr. David Tourgeman at HRC in Encino by my gynecologist in Santa Monica, who strongly recommended him to me as I am 45 years old, and finally made the decision to attempt to get pregnant. Her explanation as to why I should go to him: "He gets women pregnant."  I knew it was a long-shot, but honestly, I came in with some hope and a dream.

After the initial consultation with Dr. Tourgeman, I felt quite comfortable with his demeanor, tone and the way he spoke to my partner and I. He was informative and clearly interested in helping us.  I felt the chemistry was right. And that's critical to the process as you will be working with the physician for months, even longer. Infertility treatment is a solid commitment. It is also taxing and emotionally difficult, not just for the woman, but for the partner, as well.  You need to find a doctor whom you feel comfortable, and we felt it was right with Dr. Tourgeman. (At first, I wasn't crazy about a male doctor, but all those concerns soon disappeared as the visits rapidly progressed).

I also felt that the HRC office was quite accessible.  When I left messages for a call back, or even emails to my nurse Teresa, my questions were always answered the same or next day - never longer.

Although I didn't know at the time, HRC has a high, live birth success rate.  IVF clinics, by law, must report these rates.  You can find these statistics at:  http://www.SART.org, or on HRC's website at: http://www.havingbabies.com.  At the SART website, look for the "cycles resulting in live births."  (What you need to know is not how many women get pregnant at the clinic, but how many took home a baby).  Under the age of 35, the live birth rate at the top clinics nationwide is 50% or above. As you will see, HRC's percentage is higher than that.

Additionally, the HRC clinic in Encino has the surgery center a floor below, the place where the procedure(s) will take place, and the place where the labs are located (where the prep work for insemination is done, as well as the transfer of embryos). It's most convenient; you don't have to go to one office, and then drive down to another to get this done.  The Encino facility also has on-site acupuncture services.

I have read some of other reviews online about HRC and I can completely understand the woman who wrote that the doctor didn't call her to tell her that she wasn't pregnant - the nurse did.  However, to be fair, if you are reading this review, you are doing your homework, and if you want the doctor to make that call, then you simply ask him/her.  I wasn't aware of the process, and the nurse called me (I didn't mind, though) - with outstanding news. I was pregnant!!!  The chances for my pregnancy being that I am 45 year old, almost 46 - was under 4% through IVF. And we did it on our first try. So, as Dr. Tourgeman said, "it was monumental."  With that said, doing your homework is key to this process. We felt HRC had good quality control and strong ethics. Yes, there is always that worry that you would end up as the next statistic - you hear stories of embryos ending up in the wrong womb or ugly, legal disputes over someone's frozen eggs.  But, in the end, you have got to trust the facility, the staff, and the doctor who is treating you. And we trusted Dr. Tourgeman and HRC.

Also, be aware that many insurance plans do not cover infertility treatments. It can be costly and stressful.  We spent over an hour with the financial consultant at HRC, asking her specific questions about all the procedures and costs, as well as the medications, which we came to find out were more expensive than we first thought because of my age and the amount I needed to take. But, I do believe HRC does offer a low-cost payment cycle, which you will have to inquire about. All financial options are listed on their website. The important thing to know is if you have questions or concerns, they are there to answer them and make you feel as much at ease as possible.

When we last saw Dr. Tourgeman not too long ago in our last appointment with him before we begin our OBGYN visits, we thanked him profusely for his work, and most importantly, for his professionalism, honesty, compassion and just plain caring for us and the outcome.  His main goal: to get you pregnant. And he will do all he can in the medical field and with the advanced technology that he has to do so. I can't tell you enough that all this comes through when you first meet him.

We are truly blessed to have been referred to him, to have met him, and to have had him conduct the procedures for us.  We are sincerely thankful and grateful for all that Dr. Tourgeman has done.  I highly and sincerely recommend his services to you.

Recently, we found out we are going to have a baby boy. We are so thrilled as we are looking forward to a new life, a new future and a new family.

We wish good luck to all of you who are seeking pregnancy!

Very Thankful

After 5 years of trying to conceive on our own, one surgery to remove fibroids, and a diagnosis of severe endometriosis my husband and I were hopeless. My OB told me that the only way to conceive was through IVF, which sounded were expensive and intimidating. I went to one of the free seminars and spoke to Dr. Frederick, she seemed so supportive that we decided to go ahead and do a consultation. Dr. Frederick, her staff and her nurse Janet were very helpful and compassionate, they walked us through the process and answered all our questions. Thanks to HRC fertility, after my first IVF cycle I'm 23 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. My husband and I are so thankful for the loving, caring environment of HRC, their staff and Dr. Frederick for making our dream come true.

Nothing Short of a Miracle

Dr. Potter and the staff at HRC truly changed my world. After years of miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy, I was devastated to learn that I was physically unable to conceive a child naturally. The idea of IVF was so foreign and intimidating but my husband and I very much wanted to be parents. Through amazing care at HRC, God's grace and some old-fashioned determination, we successfully became pregnant after our 2nd round of IVF. Our son, Dylan, is now nearly 2 years old and is the absolute joy of our lives. We simply can't imagine life without him. With frozen embryos waiting (affectionately referred to as our bobsled team), we are excited to expand the family. Dr. Potter, we'll be calling you soon to hopefully give Dylan a brother or sister. THANK YOU for the greatest gift we have ever received.

HRC Highly Recommended
Huntington Reproductive was highly recommended to me by a friend who had a son with HRC. I went in and within three years, I had three kids, all beautiful and healthy and I couldn't be more blessed. Dr. Boostanfar is the most amazing Doctor -- he genuinely cares about every aspect of your experience. I sent a couple friends there just to get advice about options and they loved it.

My Miracle

After two years of trying to conceive and several attempts of medication to make me ovulate and charting my days, my husband and I finally decided to seek fertility help.  After reading all the great reviews from HRC, we had our frist orientation appt in October of 2011.  Dr. Mickey Coffler reviewed my charts and informed me that I had problems ovulating, which I was shocked since I am in my early 20's.  Anyhow, Dr. Coffler informed me about having an IUI (artifical insemination).  In November 2011, we had our frist attempt and it was a SUCCESS.  Our little miracle baby was born August 3, 2012.  Dr. Coffler is one of the best drs out there.  He always made us feel comfortable with answering all our questions, providing the best information, great bedside manners, and very friendly. The staff at the Fullerton office is the best.  Until today, Dr. Coffler has called me twice to see how we are doing.  I look forward to having my second baby with the help of HRC.

Thanks HRC.

Dr. Kolb is the Best in the Field

Dr. Kolb gave us the gift of a lifetime. We are currently expecting a girl and all thanks to Dr. Kolb. When we first arrived at HRC we were skeptical and hopeless. We had already tried 4 treatments and two different doctors were recommending donor eggs. Dr. Kolb gave us a different perspective. We are so thankful we found him! From our first try with him we got pregnant. Dr. Kolb is very knowledgeable, experienced and has a great bedside manner. His nurses are great also. They gave us hope and confidence.

We are definitely going back to Dr. Kolb for our second baby.

Thank you Dr. Kolb! You gave us a priceless gift and we'll never forget that.

HRC Gave Us Our Dream

Our journey began in 2005 with Dr. Wilcox in Pasadena. I have PCOS, so IVF was the way to go.  In Nov. we did our first round.  No success. We waited close to a year to try again. No success. March 2007, Round 3.  No success.  Dr. Wilcox realized I was a difficult case.  There had to be more to my case than just PCOS and low sperm count for my husband.  We were told about the success in cases like mine, and felt that we had a chance.

After a very emotional and difficult decision, we decided to try again. We were on the most emotional rollercoaster ride of our lives.  My desire for a child was the most intense feeling I had ever felt.  We had spent ten years trying to have a baby, to no avail.  Before he would begin my fourth round of treatment, Dr. Wilcox ordered a clotting panel done on me to see if there was any reason I could not carry a pregnancy.  He notified me that I had a clotting issue.  He diagnosed me with MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) Homozygous.  He put me on a daily regimine of Folgard, which I am on for life.

For seven moths, I took my little tiny folate pill.  October of 2007, we did our Fourth round of IVF.  We used fresh specimines from my husband, and had my fourth egg retrieval.  The transfer went well, but my uterus spasmed a little during.  That night, I began bleeding heavy.  I just knew, it was over.  My heart broke.  I called Dr. Wilcox's staff and waited a week just to be sure.  My blood test came out negative. It was that night that I wanted to give up.  My husband wasn't so sure.  I had to convince him two cycles before, and now it was his turn to convince me.  Something told us we had to give it one more try.  I know it was God talking to us.

So, crazy as it sounds, we went for round 5 in January of 2008.  This time I went through an ovulation cycle of huge proportions.  I had 23 eggs.  Once again everything was fresh, not frozen, and we got 11 fertilized eggs.  The day of transfer Dr. Wilcox chose the three most beautiful embryos to transfer.  Because of my age (36) we didn't want to push it. Three days after transfer, it happened again.  I began bleeding heavy.  Heavier than before. I didn't wait to call the doctor's on call, and I was told that maybe I was miscarrying one of the embryos.

Two days later, I went in for an early pregnancy test.  The longest day of my life.  The phone rang, and Kim on the other end of the phone told me the most incredible news I have ever heard..."Christine, you are pregnant.  Really, REALLY, pregnant.  Your numbers are incredible."  Every week, my numbers just kept getting bigger.

The day of our first internal ultrasound, we saw two embryos. One was small and not developing, but the other one was viable and developing as perfectly as it could be. I was put on Lovenox and aspirin. It was a high risk pregnancy, and in September of 2008, our daughter was born. She came early, but fought through, and now she is the most vibrant and amazing 3 1/2 year old.  Thank you Dr. Wilcox and your team for guiding us through our baby adventure.
